Questions

Small answers to the things people tend to wonder about.

Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts, logins, or profiles anywhere on Foundling. You write a book and drop it into the world — nothing is tied to your name.
Is it really anonymous?
Yes. Books aren’t attached to any identity, and we don’t ask who you are. Because of that, please don’t put anything private or identifying in a book — once it’s out and being passed along, it travels on its own.
How does someone find my book?
By chance. A reader presses Find something and is handed a book at random, or they arrive through a link or a scanned code someone left behind. There’s no feed or catalog to browse — that’s the whole idea.
Can I edit or delete a book after I’ve dropped it?
Not from your end — there’s no account to log back into, and a book may already have been passed to others. If you need something you wrote taken down, reach out through the takedown form and we’ll help.
What are drafts, and where are they saved?
Unfinished pieces are kept as drafts on your own device only — never on our side. That fits the anonymous spirit, but it also means they won’t follow you to another device or survive clearing your browser data.
How often can I write?
You can drop one book a day. Take your time with each one.
What can’t I write about?
Write your own words, and keep it from harassing, threatening, or endangering anyone, targeting people over who they are, or sharing illegal content. Submissions are lightly screened, and anything crossing those lines may be blocked or removed. The Terms have the full picture.
What does “pass it on” do?
After reading, a person can pass the book onward — optionally noting the city they’re in and a word of their own. That’s how each book gathers a quiet trail of the places it has travelled.
I found a book that’s no longer there. Why?
Books can disappear — a writer may have asked for it to come down, or it may have been removed after being reported. Like a note left on a train, part of the nature of these little books is that they don’t always last forever.
Something here troubles me. What can I do?
Every book has a quiet way to report it. If enough people flag the same piece, it’s hidden automatically while it’s looked at. For copyright concerns, use the copyright & takedown form.
